Watercolor of an Italian Village (and a painting trip to France)

A trip to Provence

The painting above was done after a trip to Rome a few years ago, so it seemed appropo for this post. I just returned from two weeks in France.

I’ve been in Provence, sketching quaint villages and lavender fields while working as crew for Scottish painter Julie Snyder’s company, Workshops in France.

This was a last-minute opportunity to travel to Avignon, via Paris and Marseille, to assist Julie in one of her twice-yearly uninstructed artist retreats in Provence. I have many photos and sketches to share with you after this wonderful trip.

Making New Art Friends

My crew-member extraordinaire and roomie Linda stayed up till all hours of the night for the duration of this trip to blog photos and details about the summertime version of this event.

She reported on lavender fields, cliff-side castles, gourmet food delivered to the chateau for dinner each night, and artist-flavored shenanigans. You can read about the painting expeditions backwards in time on her blog.

If you’re reading this well after June, start here.

Post Travel Catching Up

I’m jet lagged and catching up with work and life To-Do’s. So, I’ll just post a few photos for your inspirational enjoyment below. More images and details on the fun are forthcoming, so be sure to subscribe to get these blog posts via email.

Also, have a look at Workshops in France. You can explore options if you’re interested in seeing, photographing and painting some of the most beautiful parts of Provence. Trips are arranged in either June or September (Provence vineyards in Fall,  grape harvests and wine tasting)!

Have you ever taken an art workshop overseas?

Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next post!

Art Quote

As practice makes perfect, I cannot but make progress; each drawing one makes, each study one paints, is a step forward.
