Santa Monica Pier 6.5 x 4.5 Monotype with Watercolor   Sold

My family knows that I’m not much of an amusement park enthusiast. Sure, I go to theme parks, but I’m usually there to participate socially, and observe the colorful swath of humantity with all my badge-holding, jittery-to-be-there amusement-park-devotee friends & family.  Despite my luke-warm affection for things that spin you around till your eyes leave their sockets, and flip you upside down like a car accident, I’ve painted this particular ferris wheel before (here and here), and I’d bet a cookie and a latte that I’ll make more art featuring amusement parks again.  I love the graphic nature of theme parks and carnivals; the shiny, bold colors, big silhouettes, over-lapping circles, squares and roller coaster zig-zags, etc.  And since it’s the first day of summer, the iconic Santa Monica Pier is a fitting image to kick off this solstice weekend.  Bring on the cotton candy and churros! What are your summer art-making plans?

If your art-making includes small scale printmaking, there’s an excellent sale at McClain’s right now. They’re offering grab bags of shina wood and unmounted linoleum for 50% off – that’s less than $5 for a bag of 20 pieces.  Grab your knives and gouges, and #makesomething! Check it out here.

And if you use Akua inks & modifiers, they’ve posted a new video (above) demonstrating all of their modifiers.  There’s a page in the Akua catalog with a modifier use chart, but their new video demos tips & tricks for each modifier, in depth, which is really helpful if you’re a visual learner (I have my hand up).  If you can’t see the video in your feed or email click here to watch it [just under 10 minutes] on youtube.

Have a great weekend, and don’t forget to #makesomething

Art Quote
You have to ignore the positive [feedback] just as much as you ignore the negative, or else, it again ruins the authenticity. Then, you suddenly find yourself catering to that positive side of your audience, and then you’re only half as authentic as you should be, almost by definition.

  1. @Roberta, I thought so too, and I’m so glad you like it. If you *do* run out and get a pin press, be sure to blog about your results so we can all applaud your efforts!
