Breakfast Nook 8×6 Watercolor (sold)

This watercolor was inspired by the same little carriage house as the last post. I lived there for just two years. It was a life-changing passage – not because of the place – but events just before and during that time re-directed my life-map towards a path I resisted, but needed to ramble on. I lost a sibling, changed jobs, and ended a relationship prior to moving into this house. I arranged one of the rooms as a studio, and started painting again. I planted a flower garden and started writing & cooking. I adopted kittens, hosted dinners and traveled. I fell in love, started an art blog, opened an Etsy shop, became a step parent and leapt into art-making full time. The chapters between then and now are all woven together like my favorite cotton sweater, and when I paint images of the rooms I used to create and converse and think in, I remind myself to pay attention. This window sunshine was just yesterday, and it was two decades ago. There’s been enough life and love and time in-between to paint a thousand more paintings. 🙂 I’d better get busy.

Is there a particular flavor of imagery that entices you to chronicle your own history?

Art Quote
Do the things that interest you and do them with all your heart. Don’t be concerned about whether people are watching you or criticizing you. The chances are that they aren’t paying any attention to you. It’s your attention to yourself that is so stultifying. But you have to disregard yourself as completely as possible. If you fail the first time then you’ll just have to try harder the second time. After all, there’s no real reason why you should fail. Just stop thinking about yourself.
