Thank you for the encouraging emails, comments and notes after the last post about haters leaving comments. The same blogosphere that might drop anonymous profanity bombs also linked arms and encircled me with one hundred silk parachutes of kindness. So many of you have similar experiences with hateful comments, and I feel more steadfast than ever to ignore & delete the wicked turds before they have an eye-blink’s worth of time to stain the day.
A gardening friend who is particularly good with roses listened to me complain once about a floribunda limping along with aphids, mildew and snails, and he said “Prune with a shovel!” I love that phrase. The delete key works just as well as a shovel’s blade for removing the dark things from our gardens. High fives and hip-bumps to all of you who exercise your delete key with gusto!

In other, most wonderful news…..

Women Painting Women Juried Exhibition at Principal Gallery Charleston opens September 5, 2014.  The juror,  Allison Malafronte, is a wonderful writer, editor, curator, consultant, and creative entrepreneur who has worked in the arts for almost a decade. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing her speak at an art conference, as well as reading many of the essays she wrote for American Artist & Fine Art Today. I am humbled & so delighted to be among her choices for this year’s exhibit of work, done by so many women artists I admire and follow. I’m not able to attend the opening, but if you live in or near Charleston, South Carolina, do see this show. (You can read more about Women Painting Women on their Facebook Page.)

You can order the catalog for the show online here, and you can view a splendid 3 minute teaser video of the incredible assembly of painters on exhibit too:

Art Quote
You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere, and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost. What I am looking for is not out there, it is in me.

  1. Congratulations!! this looks like an incredible show! So excited for you! I’m intrigued by your painting watercolor on the cradled board, are you painting on the clay board surface?

  2. I am so intrigued by your painting in watercolour on cradled board. Beautiful.

Yes the shovel is the answer. I find it very sad that someone should ever try to upset a wonderful artist like you. Also I love the affection, kindness and support fellow bloggers
in art offer. Parts of this blogging world are magical and exciting, and that’s where we need to focus our attention. Thank you for this, and for all you do.
    XOXOXOXOXOXOXO Barbara
