Hello there, and Happy Monday. The Autumnal Equinox is this Wednesday, September 23rd. While summer hurls & bellows the last hot winds on us here in the West, I’m reminiscing about apple-picking in New England, and the bushel-sized wood-slat orchard basket of Granny Smith & Macintosh apples my nana kept on the back porch.
I love summer and I’m not in a rush for it to end, but I do like the cozy productivity that happens in the studio over the Fall & Winter months, don’t you?
This past weekend, I exhibited at the 12th annual Thousand Oaks Arts Festival. The location is beautiful (see photos below). They featured live music, theatrical skits, kids art activities, and food vendors… plus, the staff took very good care of the artists. This is a smallish festival, with only 40 or so artisans, but I think it’s a great show. The heat was a challenge though.
A few lionhearted patrons attended in 100 degree, 80% humidity sunshine, but overall, people couldn’t stay to chat or linger & look at art because it was so uncomfortable. [Insert audio of sizzling bacon while looking at the festival photos.]
We were all very grateful to the folks who braved the scorch, and we did our best to encourage standing in the shade, but with no breeze, and the radiant heat from the booth canopies, each 10×10 exhibit space adopted the atmosphere of individual pizza ovens.
For the peeps that came out to say hello, I high five you for your daring, stalwart support. Really, thanks so much for slogging through the furnace to say hello & buy art. Now, it’s time to drink more water, unload my gear, and put things away till the next show. 🙂
Art Quote
Be a good steward of your gifts. Protect your time. Feed your inner life. Avoid too much noise. Read good books, have good sentences in your ears. Be by yourself as often as you can. Walk. Take the phone off the hook. Work regular hours.

Don’t know how I missed this one………..it’s wonderful and inspiring.
Thanks for your always kind enthusiasm, Carol!
So beautiful, lovely!
Bonsoir,
